Pictures take us to places we’d like to see– and memories of like place we’ve been. Stone paved pathways and streets are a thing of the past in New York City the place of my birth.
Thanks for the additional information. When civic planners and doers join in with local citizens. our outdoor environment takes on a refreshing tone. Paved streets and sidewalks heighten our attention towards creativity.
But I am afraid this is something only Lisbon in times of big discoveries of the word was able to afford such ornamental pavings….
I was born and raised in Queens, NY and worked in Manhattan. The photo reminds me of upper Manhattan.
This is interesting-two cities so far away, yet so similar in a way!
Back in the day, we had paved cobble stone boulevards, Southern Boulevard, and cobble stone avenues, Prospect Avenue, in the Bronx. It would be my guess these proved to unfavorable to automobiles as they increased in horsepower and speeding drivers, on rainy days especially.
And they are quiet expensive…
We have them since Roman empire,ours are novadays made of tonalite from Pohorje-dark grey colour.Unfortunately some people misuse them here in these days …….
That is always nice to see the young and old together. The young trees do have to fight a bit for water and light, but one day, it is their turn to create much needed shadow for the pedestrians.

This is nice to hear, yet the Lisbon pavements are unique as they have patterns-floral ones, reptiles, boats or just geometric shapes!
