Little vandals on work in My Botanical Garden

I remember reading about high IQ birds might have, this morning I’ve started to believe it. I really have been angry for an instant-my brand new veranda pillows have looked like leaking sugar clouds when I’ve come with my morning coffee. After a close inspection it became clear it was done in purpose-a birdie needed some insulation for his new home.Proofs were not far away as my last photos do show, there is not much to do-this is a real sustainable world I would say. So for this night I am offering the old pillow for free-OK almost for free ,as I will be waiting with my camera for a pic there-for I really wish to see this little vandal at work……

Birds also like cats and dogs hair, so if you have a cat or a dog and you give them a good brushing, remove the hairs, put them in a conifer or a pinetree or in a basket you hang in a tree and the birds will be very happy; real fur for a warm nest, what more do you want !

Indeed that is another great way to get the birds some nesting material. It is all to blame on those duvets! :-). We need to go back to the time of woollen blankets and leaving them out on the balcony for a day, accepting some of them will suffer bird-damage during the spring.

Totally true, Gwennie. Last spring I saw a crow sitting on the back of a pony picking its hairs. The pony didn’t seem to bother and that naughty crow worked fanatically. It made me wonder how long it had taken to find that single pony in the meadows.

I am collecting wool rests already-I like the way they look in the hanging basket-very decorative so to say building materials shop ; )

I see you all chucked out there,I would, too,if not talking about MY NEW cushions!I guess the birds are building nest right under the terrace’s roof-they must have been watching us sitting on those comfortable cushions 😉

You are absolutely right,I feel the same as you do.
And I’ve prepared some material for this little friend,to help him a little;)
Cheers,
Tamara
ps: your post about awards has helped me to feel less guilty-I share the same opinion, thank you!

I save all of our laundry lint, then hang it from trees in a mesh bag from tomatoes or potatoes. We use biodegradable laundry soap, so no harsh detergents in the lint. I read that they will also use pet hair, so I brush the cats and add that fur to the stash as well. It’s soft, organic and free! Good luck.

To break the habit, you might try misting the cushions with white vinegar, harmless but strong.

thank you for a good advice-I prepared some material for our birdie, but it looks like the nest is already built-and we even haven’t seen the architect!
